Format guide

How The Tournament Works

Qualification from the groups

  • Three points for a win, one for a draw and zero for a loss.
  • Every nation plays the other three teams in its group once.
  • The top two teams in each group reach the Round of 32 automatically.
  • The eight best third-placed teams also advance.

Group tie-breakers

  1. Head-to-head points, goal difference and goals scored between the tied teams.
  2. Then overall group goal difference and overall goals scored.
  3. Then team conduct points based on yellow and red cards.
  4. Finally, FIFA Men's World Ranking if teams are still level.

Knockout rules

  • Every knockout match is single elimination.
  • If a match is level after 90 minutes, it goes to extra time.
  • If teams are still level after extra time, the winner is decided by penalties.
  • The third-place play-off is scheduled for Saturday, July 18, 2026.
